Auto News: Maruti Suzuki is developing its own strong hybrid powertrain for its upcoming models. This hybrid system will be especially for entry- and mid-level segment cars. This hybrid technology will be different from Toyota's series-parallel hybrid system and will also be much cheaper in price.
Maruti F-10 will be the first car with this in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain. Its launch date has not been decided yet, but it will come to the market in 2026.
After this, the new generation Maruti Baleno will be at number two, and then Maruti's new sub-4-meter MPV will come. The new Baleno is expected to get petrol-hybrid engines with major changes in design and interiors. The upcoming compact MPV can be based on the Suzuki Spacia, which is currently sold in Japan
Both models can be launched in 2026. This will mean that by 2026, Maruti will have three types of hybrid technology: mild hybrid, Maruti's own strong hybrid, and a hybrid system taken from Toyota.
Maruti's best-selling Swift hatchback and Brezza subcompact SUV will also get this new series hybrid technology. The new generation Swift will come in a hybrid version in 2027, while the next generation Brezza will be launched with this new hybrid technology in 2029. Both models will see major changes in design and interiors.
The company is developing a series hybrid setup, in which the engine will only work as a generator or range extender. The electricity generated by the hybrid system will be given directly to the electric motor, which will drive the wheels. This setup will be simpler than the series-parallel system.
At the same time, Maruti's high-end SUVs will get the same strong hybrid system as Toyota. Maruti will introduce its new hybrid system with the Z12E three-cylinder petrol engine, which is currently available in the Swift. According to the report, the upcoming Maruti hybrid cars will give a mileage of more than 35 kmpl.
